Busing Resumes Tuesday

Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025
Dear Parents and Families,
We wanted to inform you that we received a second email yesterday evening regarding bombs on our buses. This email is similar to the swatting emails that have been received nationally and across the state. As we shared with you yesterday afternoon, the Michigan State Police and Grandville Police Department did a thorough search of our buses and transportation department and found no evidence of any explosive device on the buses or property. We have also continued 24/7 security on that property and know that no one has been near our buses since they were searched by the police. The Grandville and Michigan State Police continue to investigate.
Due to our constant dialogue with the Grandville Police Department, we are confident that our buses will run safely and we are able to have school today. We are excited to have our students back in our buildings and look forward to a great school day.

Dear Parents and Families,
First of all, we appreciate your support, kind words, and partnership on days like today. As mentioned earlier, at approximately 11:19 am, on September 29, 2025, Grandville Public Schools received an emailed bomb threat stating there was a bomb placed on a Grandville Schools bus. Out of an abundance of caution, we suspended bus transportation for the afternoon.
We immediately began working with law enforcement to ensure safety for our students and staff. Grandville Police Department, Grand Rapids Police Department and the Michigan State Police worked together to inspect our buses, vans, and the transportation/maintenance property. They found no evidence of any sort of explosive device anywhere on the property. Initial investigation shows the threat originated from an email provider located outside the country. In addition, MSP’s MIOC confirms this was a swatting event that has occurred nationwide and at multiple districts in Michigan.
As an added safety measure, we will have 24-hour surveillance of our transportation property for at least the remainder of this week. We are confident that our buses are safe for kids and transportation will continue to run as normal tomorrow morning. Even so, Grandville Public Schools and the Grandville Police Department are taking the threats seriously and completing a full investigation.
There are many people to thank for ensuring our students made it home safely today. First, we want to thank you, our community, parents, grandparents, and Wyoming Public Schools Transportation Department for understanding the situation and supporting our efforts to get our students home safely. Second, our teachers, support staff, security, secretaries, and administrators are simply amazing when unique situations like this arise. Our neighbors in education — Byron Center, Hudsonville, Jenison, and Wyoming — had additional buses and drivers ready to assist if we needed them. In addition, our area and state law enforcement are incredible in their response and support to our District.
We are 100% confident in our ability to continue school and busing as normal tomorrow. At times like this, it is easy to jump on a social media platform or in an online chat to comment on these events. Please talk with your student(s) who may want to comment on this event and monitor their online activity. Thank you once again for your partnership. We simply couldn’t do this without you.

Dear Parents and Families,
This morning, our district received an email containing a bomb threat directed at our buses. While we understand how concerning this news may be, please know that we are taking the matter very seriously.
We are actively working with our local law enforcement partners to determine the credibility of the threat and to identify the appropriate next steps. Preliminary discovery is that this email service is based out of the country and is anonymous. Buses will be inspected and cleared. State and local police will work to determine the credibility of the threat. The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority, and we will continue to keep you updated as new information becomes available.
In an abundance of caution, we are unable to provide afternoon school bus transportation today. As a result, all students who normally ride the bus will need alternative transportation home at the end of the school day.
If you are unable to make arrangements for your child this afternoon, please contact your child’s school office as soon as possible so that we can work with you on next steps. At the end of the school day, our buildings will remain staffed this afternoon for any student who needs to stay at school until they are picked up. We are working with our local districts to secure additional buses to help bring students home who can not get a ride home from school. Buses from Dean Transportation will run as normal.
We understand that this change may cause inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we manage this situation. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority.
We will continue to communicate with our families as we learn more about this situation. Further information about transportation for tomorrow will be provided later this afternoon or early evening.
Thank you for your support and flexibility.
