Adriana Allen
Adriana will attend the Michigan State University Honors College to major in Biomedical Laboratory Science, with plans to become a Medical Laboratory Scientist. She hopes to work in a hospital or clinic setting, where she can play a vital role in patient care by running diagnostic tests that support accurate treatment decisions. At Grandville High School, Adriana served as an officer in the National Honor Society, taking on dual responsibilities as both tutoring coordinator and treasurer, reflecting her dedication to academics and helping others succeed.In addition to her NHS leadership, Adriana was a two-year drum major for the marching band and a captain for both the swim and water polo teams, demonstrating her strength as a leader across a wide range of activities. She credits Mr. Kleinsasser, her Honors Algebra II teacher, for teaching her the value of persistence and asking for help — providing a lesson that reshaped her academic mindset. Adriana is the daughter of Andrea and Nicholas Allen.
Seth Datema
Seth will attend the University of Michigan to study Finance on the pre-law track, with aspirations of a career in corporate law, where his interests in business and legal strategy intersect. At Grandville High School, Seth stood out as vice president of Grandville DECA and a member of the Michigan DECA district council, gaining valuable leadership experience while competing in business and marketing events at a high level.In addition to his academic and leadership pursuits, Seth discovered a passion for rock climbing through the GHS Climbing Club, drawn to the mental challenge and problem-solving required in the sport. He credits Mr. Van Hekken, his seminar teacher, for playing a key role in his academic success by consistently keeping him accountable. Seth is the son of Ashley Pemberton and Justin Datema.
Kaelyn Loverin
Kaelyn is headed to the University of Michigan to study Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCN). At Grandville High School, she made her mark as a three-time Audio/Visual short film director, showcasing her creativity, leadership and storytelling talents behind the camera. A/V teacher Michael Cox says Kaelyn was known for writing, directing and editing masterworks. Her ability to bring stories to life through film reflects a unique blend of artistic vision and intellectual curiosity. Kaelyn is the daughter of Michelle and Matthew Loverin.
Sam McCarthy
Sam is headed to Michigan State University to study Performance on Tenor Trombone, blending his love of music with his talent and dedication. At Grandville High School, Sam made a name for himself as a three-year captain of the rugby team, a rare achievement that reflects both his leadership and his commitment to his teammates.Whether on the field or performing as a musician, Sam brought passion and discipline to everything he did at GHS. Band director Eduardo Garcia says that Sam "led by example and humility."
Sam's dual pursuits in athletics and the fine arts showcase a well-rounded student who leads with both heart and determination. He is the son of Anne and Adam McCarthy.
Ruby McKellar
Ruby is taking a gap year to explore opportunities and prepare for her next step, studying computer programming with the goal of becoming a full-stack app developer. At Grandville High School, Ruby was a proud member of the National Honor Society, where she demonstrated a strong commitment to academics and service.Beyond NHS, Ruby found joy in giving back and growing her interests. She was an active member of the Garden Club and volunteered weekly at Sunset Senior Communities, reflecting her thoughtful and community-minded spirit. Ruby is especially grateful to Mr. VanderWall and Mrs. Carrick for their encouragement and for making learning an engaging and enjoyable experience. She is the daughter of Stephanie and Christopher McKellar.
Henry Parker
Henry will study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, driven by a bold dream to one day start his own car company. Known for his leadership on and off the field, Henry served as a two-time captain of the Grandville lacrosse team, a role that reflects his dedication and commitment to teamwork.Henry credits much of his academic growth to two influential teachers: Mrs. Perry, his physics teacher, and Ms. Stouten, his calculus teacher. He appreciates not only their deep understanding of their subjects but also their ability to make complex concepts clear and approachable. Henry is the son of Melissa and Brian Parker.
Maximilian Poehlman
Maximilian will attend the University of Michigan to study Economics on the pre-law track, with aspirations of becoming a corporate lawyer. His goal is to not only support his loved ones but also have a sense of purpose and fulfillment through his career. He hopes to work for the greater good as a lawyer, combining his analytical skills and strong work ethic. At Grandville High School, Maximilian served as treasurer of the Senior Executive Board, a role that showcased his leadership abilities and commitment to his class.Outside the classroom, Maximilian was a dedicated member of the boys soccer program, playing on the varsity team for three years and earning both All-District Honors and Academic All-State recognition. He also gave back to the program by helping with summer conditioning alongside the middle school coach. He is the son of Jacqueline and Alexander Poehlman.
Allison Schick
Allison will attend Grand Valley State University to pursue a double major in Math Education and Theatre, blending her love of numbers with her passion for the performing arts. At Grandville High School, Allison made her mark behind the scenes as the Stage Manager for GHS Theatre, where her organization and dedication were important for each production.Allison’s dream is to become a math teacher, a goal inspired by Ms. Stouten. She credits Ms. Stouten’s enthusiasm for math and her supportive approach with helping shape both her academic path and personal growth. She says Ms. Stouten encouraged her to take on new challenges and sees the potential for growth in all students. Allison is the daughter of Jennifer and Bill Schick.
Logan Schwandner
Logan will attend the University of Michigan to major in Biomedical Engineering, driven by a passion for innovation and problem-solving. At Grandville High School, Logan was a standout leader as a three-year captain of the Grandville robotics team (FRC), helping guide the team through competitions and complex engineering challenges.Logan’s leadership in robotics reflects both his technical skill and collaborative spirit, two qualities that will serve him well as he pursues a career at the intersection of medicine and engineering. He is the son of Jessica and Michael Schwandner.
James Weiss
James Weiss III will attend Northern Michigan University to major in Physics, with his sights set on a future in particle physics research, ideally at CERN Labs in Geneva, Switzerland. At Grandville High School, James led both on the field and in the classroom, serving as captain of the football team and starting on varsity for three years. His leadership and drive extended far beyond athletics.An accomplished multi-sport athlete, James competed in five varsity sports during his time at GHS. He also nurtured a love for reading and writing and is currently working on a novel he hopes to publish one day. When it came to academics, James credits a unique team of supporters — Mr. Smedes, SparkNotes, Heimler’s History, Albert.io and OpenAI — for helping him prepare for his AP exams with confidence. He is the son of Laura and Kevin Weiss.
