Dear Parents and Guardians,

Out of an abundance of caution, we are moving up the times of our outdoor events, practices, and contests due to the information we have received regarding EEE, or Eastern Equine Encephalitis. You may recall this from last year. Here is some information. Until further notice, all student activities should end before dusk. Away contests in other counties not impacted at this time (Ottawa and Muskegon) will be determined by the host schools.

This topic has been discussed with the Kent County Health Department. We have been informed that impacted counties, including Kent, are being sprayed today. We have learned that spraying takes place over a couple of days, depending on the weather, and that spraying knocks out the mosquitoes fairly quickly, so we may be in much better shape for after-school events next week than we are today.

We will notify you when we are back to our usual outdoor activity schedule. We thank you for your time and partnership. Schedules regarding practices and contests will be communicated through our athletic offices and/or your child’s coach.

Educationally,

Roger Bearup
